Pure Nickel Strip 0.15 x 6 mm for Battery Spot Welding

The Pure Nickel Strip 0.15 x 6 mm is an electrical interconnection material used in lithium battery-pack assembly, especially where cylindrical cells are joined by spot welding. The strip is specified at 0.15mm thickness and 6mm width and is sold as pure or high-purity nickel. This material category is preferred in many battery builds because nickel provides a combination of electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and weldability that is useful for cell-tab and series/parallel interconnection work.

The strip dimensions matter because they influence both electrical resistance and how the material fits on the cell terminal. A 6mm width is narrow enough for many cylindrical-cell layouts, while 0.15mm thickness provides more conductive cross-section than thinner strip. From the nominal dimensions, the geometric cross-sectional area is 0.90mm², but practical current capability cannot be assigned from area alone.

Electrical heating in a battery interconnect depends on material resistance, strip length, weld quality, current level and the number of parallel current paths. A short connection with multiple parallel strips can behave very differently from a long single strip carrying the same current. Pack designers should therefore calculate the current path across the complete parallel group and series connection rather than relying on a universal ampacity number for 0.15 x 6mm strip.

Spot-weld quality is equally important. The welding process must create a strong electrical and mechanical bond without excessive heat transfer into the cell. Electrode pressure, pulse energy, electrode condition, surface cleanliness and strip thickness all affect the weld. A strong-looking weld that has high contact resistance can still create localized heating during operation. Test welds and peel checks are useful before moving into repeated production.

Choose the strip width and thickness according to the cell terminal area, pack current and spot-welder capability. It is commonly used on cylindrical lithium cells such as 18650 and 21700 formats, but the final fit depends on the cell cap design and pack geometry. High-current battery packs may require wider strip, multiple parallel layers, shaped busbars or copper-nickel solutions rather than forcing one narrow nickel strip to carry the full current.

Applications

• 18650 and 21700 lithium-ion battery-pack assembly.

• Cylindrical LiFePO4 battery interconnection where the terminal geometry is compatible.

• Series and parallel cell-group spot welding.

• Battery repair, prototyping and custom pack fabrication.

• Production fixtures and battery assembly workflows requiring 0.15 x 6mm nickel strip.

Installation Guide

Cut the strip cleanly and keep the cell terminals free from oil, dust and oxidation before welding. Set the spot welder for 0.15mm material and make test welds on sample cells or scrap fixtures before production. Place weld points so current can spread through the strip without concentrating around one weak joint. Avoid excessive heat, sharp strip edges and accidental bridging between cell groups. Inspect finished welds mechanically and electrically before adding insulation and final pack compression.

Why Choose ARB Accessories?

ARB Accessories focuses on lithium-battery, EV, energy-storage and battery-pack assembly components. The catalog brings together BMS boards, connectors, insulation materials, battery boxes, wiring, cell interconnect materials, testing equipment and assembly tools. For battery builders, repair workshops and OEM buyers, sourcing related components from one specialist catalog can make specification matching and procurement easier. Final suitability should still be checked against the exact battery design, equipment model and electrical requirements before installation.
