15 mm Red Heat Shrink Tubing
The 15 mm Red Heat Shrink Tubing is heat-shrink tubing with a 15 mm catalogue diameter and red colour. It is used as a heat-applied insulating and protective sleeve over compatible electrical conductors, joints and terminations. The diameter is the primary selection point because the tubing must first slide over the unheated assembly and then recover around the finished section when heat is applied.
Heat-shrink tubing adds insulation, abrasion protection, strain-relief support and visual organisation around finished wiring. This 15 mm size is suited to general wire joints, cable lugs, connector tails and harness transitions when the geometry fits the sleeve. The tubing does not create an electrical joint by itself; the conductor, crimp, solder joint, lug or connector must already be mechanically and electrically sound before the sleeve is recovered over it.
Heating changes the tubing from its supplied diameter to a smaller recovered form around the substrate. Good installation comes from even heating around the circumference rather than concentrating heat at one point. The sleeve should recover progressively without scorching, splitting or trapping sharp edges beneath it. The red colour supports circuit organisation and visual identification, but electrical polarity comes from the wiring design and labelling system rather than from colour alone.
For medium diameters, the pre-shrink diameter must pass over the largest part of the joint while the recovered sleeve still grips the underlying cable or terminal insulation. Heat-shrink ratio, recovered diameter and wall thickness are product-family properties that determine the final fit, so diameter selection should be based on both the largest section the tubing must pass over and the smallest section it must grip after recovery. A snug fit improves mechanical support and appearance, while excessive clearance reduces the usefulness of the sleeve around the termination.
Heat-shrink tubing is not a replacement for a fuse, breaker, enclosure, waterproof gland or correctly rated cable insulation. It works as an additional local layer around a joint or harness section. The underlying connection should be smooth enough that sharp conductor strands or terminal edges do not cut into the sleeve. Where the wiring is exposed to movement, support the cable so flexing occurs in the conductor insulation rather than directly at the recovered edge of the tubing.
Applications
• Insulation over wire joints, cable lugs and medium-size electrical terminations in battery assemblies.
• Battery-pack and inverter harness protection where a clean sleeve is needed over the finished connection.
• Polarity and circuit identification in red or black wiring systems used for DC power distribution.
• Mechanical protection around connector exits, splice points and cable transitions exposed to routine handling.
• Wire bundling and local harness organisation in EV, solar, UPS and industrial electrical equipment.
• Repair and refurbishment of compatible cable sections where the tubing can be positioned before termination.
Installation Guide
Cut the tubing to the required finished coverage before making the final connection when the termination will be too large to pass through later. Slide the sleeve away from the active work area while crimping or soldering, then position it centrally over the completed joint. Keep conductor strands, solder points and terminal edges smooth, and leave enough overlap onto intact cable insulation to create a clean transition.
Apply controlled hot air around the tubing and move the heat source continuously so recovery remains even along the full circumference. Start from one section and progress along the sleeve to reduce trapped air and local overheating. The tubing should settle closely around the cable or termination without charring, bubbling or severe distortion. Allow the recovered sleeve to cool before bending or loading the connection.
Record the tubing diameter and colour used in repeatable battery-pack or harness builds so replacement work keeps the same fit and identification scheme. Inspect recovered sleeves during service for cuts, splitting, heat damage or movement away from the termination. Changes to cable diameter, lug geometry, connector size or splice construction require renewed size selection because the same nominal tubing may no longer pass over or grip the revised assembly.
