GLITTER G886A Single-Cell Comprehensive Battery Tester

The GLITTER G886A is a single-cell comprehensive battery tester for checking capacity, voltage and resistance under controlled conditions. It is intended for low-voltage rechargeable-cell evaluation, not unrestricted testing of completed high-voltage battery packs.

For incoming inspection, a voltage reading alone cannot establish whether a cell will deliver its labelled capacity. Adding a repeatable discharge test gives the assembler another useful measurement before committing cells to a module. This instrument suits an organised sample-testing bench where individual results are kept with the corresponding cell identity.

Technical Performance & Engineering Details

The documented single-cell configuration accepts test voltages up to 5.5V and offers 0.5A, 1A and 2A current selections. It also provides resistance measurement and a supported charge-then-discharge capacity sequence. Select the operating mode around the cell's permitted limits rather than choosing the highest setting automatically.

Capacity describes the charge delivered under a particular test procedure. A result obtained with a light load cannot be assumed equal to one obtained at a heavier load or a different endpoint. Likewise, resistance readings are useful only when contact condition, cell temperature and state of charge are reasonably consistent. Record these conditions when comparing samples, and investigate abnormal readings before assigning a pass or fail.

Match the fixture to the cell dimensions and terminal arrangement. Electrical voltage compatibility does not guarantee that every cylindrical or pouch format fits the supplied holder. Confirm the charge profile and termination method for the actual chemistry, particularly when evaluating cells with different full-charge voltages.

A battery protection circuit and the correct test settings serve different purposes; neither should be omitted because the other is present. For procurement, specify whether the job is individual-cell screening or finished-pack capacity measurement. A low-voltage cell instrument should not be selected for a series pack merely because both products are called battery testers.

Installation Guide

Position the tester on a stable, dry bench with unobstructed ventilation. Confirm its mains version and inspect the test leads before use. Keep loose cells and conductive tools away from the measurement terminals, and have a competent operator verify polarity before starting a test.

Commission the instrument with an approved reference cell and a conservative, documented procedure. Check that the selected current and stop conditions match the cell specification. Keep the cell label, measured result and procedure together. Stop the test if the cell becomes abnormal, and isolate damaged samples from reusable stock instead of repeatedly cycling them in an attempt to improve the result.
