DK BCT40 99V 40A Battery Discharge Capacity Tester

The DK BCT40 is a battery discharge capacity tester for compatible lithium and lead-acid packs. It provides controlled discharge testing; charging and automatic charge-discharge cycling require a separately matched external charger.

This arrangement can suit a workshop that already has an appropriate charger and needs to add repeatable load testing. Treat the BCT40 and charger as separate components of one approved setup. The resulting process must respect the operating limits of both instruments as well as those of the battery and its protective circuit.

The BCT40 offers an adjustable discharge current from 0.5A to 40A and a 9-99V discharge-cutoff range. It uses constant-current discharge and provides local data recording and enquiry. The documented instrument is panel-operated and does not provide a computer communications port.

Its external-charger interface allows an approved charger to be incorporated for extended charging and cycling functions. The discharge rating does not become the charging rating: charging performance depends on the connected charger and the supported interface arrangement. Specify those limits explicitly when comparing systems. For capacity measurement, record the battery's initial charge condition and the chosen load and endpoint so repeated results describe a comparable test rather than unrelated discharge events.

Check the complete battery voltage range, including the highest charged voltage and the intended lower endpoint. Confirm that the battery and BMS can support the selected load continuously. Do not assume that any charger with a matching plug is suitable for the BCT40 interface or for the battery chemistry.

Specify the external charger, connecting harness and operating sequence together. Establish how charging completion will be recognised and how the transition to discharge will occur. Where a workshop only needs stand-alone discharge tests, define a separate battery-preparation procedure. Also confirm the required local recordkeeping, since PC export should not be assumed from the presence of a digital display.

Installation Guide

Set up the tester with the specified grounded mains supply and unrestricted cooling airflow. Inspect the current and sensing leads and verify polarity before connecting the battery. Have trained personnel commission any external-charger arrangement using the correct documentation rather than improvised cable connections.

Run a reference battery through the intended process and verify the discharge endpoint before customer testing. For cycling, check the charger interaction and every transition during the initial run. Keep the battery identity attached to the test record and document any protective interruption. Stop for abnormal heating, damaged insulation or inconsistent contact. Ensure batteries leaving the station are returned to the condition required by the next operation or their storage instructions.
