Its primary specifications are a 1 square millimeter conductor cross-section, red insulation, and a 100-meter supply length.

A 1 SQMM conductor provides more conductor area than 0.5 or 0.75 SQMM wire of the same material, making it useful where the system design calls for a larger low-voltage conductor while still requiring easy routing through an enclosure or battery pack. The actual current that can safely be carried is not determined by cross-section alone. Conductor material, strand construction, insulation rating, cable length, ambient temperature, bundling, connection quality, and acceptable voltage drop all influence final cable selection.

Technical Details

For the same conductor material and length, increasing conductor cross-sectional area reduces electrical resistance. A 1 SQMM conductor therefore provides more conductive area than 0.5 or 0.75 SQMM wire, which can help control voltage drop in suitable DC circuits. A universal amp rating should not be inferred from cross-sectional area alone because safe current depends on conductor construction, insulation temperature rating, cable length, ambient temperature, bundling, terminal quality and the voltage-drop limit of the finished system. This is why wire size is selected as part of the complete electrical design rather than by one number in isolation.

Red is widely used for positive DC conductors, but installers must follow the actual wiring diagram. In repair work especially, previous wiring may not follow normal color conventions. Confirm polarity electrically before making the final connection.

Installation Guide

Select terminals rated for the wire size and conductor construction. Strip the insulation cleanly without nicking the strands. Use a correct crimp tool and die for crimp terminals, or an appropriate ferrule system when the wire is going into a screw-clamp terminal that calls for ferrules.

Support the cable near connectors to reduce flexing at the terminal. Protect it from sharp edges and abrasion. Avoid routing next to components that operate at temperatures beyond the insulation rating. Keep bend radius reasonable so the conductor is not repeatedly stressed.
